French luxury candle brand Amen likes to do things A.S.A.P - As Sustainable As Possible, guided by Instituto- E, a non-profit organisation based in Brazil that encourages sustainability principles.

Amen was launched by Rodrigo Garcia Alvarez who created non-toxic candles handmade from natural vegan wax in Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. Each candle is hand-poured and encased in a charming reusable Limoges porcelain jar with a reforested beech wood lid.

The scents have been created in partnership with top Yoga Meccas and Gurus around the world to create 7 fragrances for 7 chakras with the aim to balance body, mind, and soul.

With sustainability as their guiding principle, Amen teamed up with biotech start-up Grown to create the greenest and cleanest packaging method imaginable - Mushroom Packaging.

An alternative to protective packaging such as styrofoam, this packaging is actually grown and it's made of agricultural waste and mycelium - the root structure of mushrooms. It's 100% biodegradable and compostable packaging which naturally breaks down into the earth without pollution. A perfect alternative to the tons of plastic bubble wrap and styrofoam that are harmful to our environment.

Amen is a great example of a luxury brand that is leading the way in adopting sustainable principles. The minimalist visual identity together with the natural, fibrous material of the mushroom packaging is aesthetically on point and speaks sustainability.

The introduction of mushroom packaging into the world of luxury will hopefully incentivise other brands to make these necessary changes.
